My wife and I spent a wonderful couple of days in Truth or Consequences, NM. I have to admit, before this week, I had not done more than either drive through or by T or C.
We were booked at the Riverbend Hot Springs and I was really looking forward to spending some time in the hot springs and I must say that I was not disappointed. The springs range in temperature from 102 - 108 degrees. The water felt so good it would be extremely easy to get spoiled. I could really get used to doing something like this on a regular basis.
There was a recent article in the New Mexico Magazine about Truth or Consequences and that combined with spring break made it a very popular place. As a result, we could only spend one day at Riverbend. But this turned out to be quite a fortunate turn of events, as we spent the second night at the Birch Street Retreat, a bed and breakfast which is only four blocks away from the springs. Roger and Ann Swanson are wonderful hosts. Extremely comfortable lodgings, great hospitality and did I mention...massages? Roger is a licensed massage therapist and after soaking in the hot springs, this was a perfect follow up.
T or C is definitely an artist community as well. While in the hot springs, I was surprised to discover how many artists were either there visiting or who live there in T or C. If we had more time I would have loved to have checked them out in length.
On our last day, we did take time to visit the Geronimo Springs Museum, which covers the history of Sierra County, including a section dedicated to Ralph Edwards, the host of the radio show "Truth or Consequences," for which the town was named.
Although my first visit to Truth or Consequences was a short one, it was quite relaxing. And I know one thing, it won't be my last.
